Government Study Confirms Ground Water Level Down in Plachimada

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The ground water level in the wells around the
Coca-Cola bottling plant at Plachimada in Palakkad district dropped
between 2002 and 2004, state Water Resources Minister Thiruvanchoor
Radhakrishnan said on Wednesday.
As per a study by the department in 16 wells around the plant, it
was found that between March 2002 and March 2003, water level dropped
by 0.22 metre to 1.37 metre in nine wells, while one well dried up,
he said in reply to a question in the state assembly.
In the other six wells water level rose by 0.21 metre to 1.10 metre,
he said.
Between May 2003 and May 2004, ground water level dropped by 0.05
metre to 1.02 metre in 11 of 16 wells in the area, he added.
